Safety

Our practices and policies related to COVID-a9

Best Actor/Actress nominees must be vaccinated

We announced in October 2021 that all nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress must be vaccinated by April 1, 2022 against COVID-19 and be able to provide proof of their vaccines to us. Here’s why:
  • All Broadway theaters mandate that anyone appearing on their stages must show proof they are fully vaccinated in order to do so. We know of no exceptions to that rule.
  • Our Best Actor and Best Actress will perform on a Broadway stage in the Jimmy Awards with dozens of their peers from across the country in June 2022. Therefore, the two students we send to New York must be vaccinated.
  • By May 7, the date of the Enchantment Awards, we have to know that each of our nominees is ready to go because any two of them could be selected. When we send the names of our nominees to the Broadway League in New York on May 9, we are obligated to know they meet all requirements.
  • In order to announce our 20 nominees on April 11, we have to know that all nominees we name can meet all the requirements to go to New York.
  • We established the April 1 deadline so we will know that all those we consider for Best Actor and Best Actress awards already have proof of their vaccinations before we announce the finalists for those awards.
If you wish to be considered for our Best Actor or Best Actress awards and have not already submitted proof of vaccination, please submit your proof by using our submission form. If you have any questions, please send us an email. We will respond as quickly as we can.

Protocols for everyone else

  • Our Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress nominees and all Directors Choice Chorus members must either be vaccinated or show proof of a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to the first in-person rehearsal. Only results of COVID-19 PCR tests administered by a lab will be accepted. (These are free tests administered throughout the state.) Results of at-home or rapid tests will not be accepted.
  • Our Assistant Stage Managers, Production Intern, Lighting Intern, and Sound Intern must show proof of vaccination. Since all Popejoy stage personnel must be vaccinated, our team of artistic, backstage, and support personnel, including interns, will have to show proof of vaccination to work on the show.
  • Our Student Reporter must either be vaccinated or show proof of a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to the first in-person rehearsal. Only if the Student Reporter is vaccinated will they will be allowed backstage at Popejoy Hall.
  • All personnel will be required to wear masks covering nose and mouth for all in-person rehearsals. Admission to rehearsals will be strictly limited to performers and essential personnel.
  • Those not vaccinated may be required to show another negative PCR test result 72 hours ahead of moving into Popejoy Hall.
  • In Popejoy Hall, all performers will be required to wear masks covering both nose and mouth while not performing. We have not yet made a determination about whether the show will be performed in masks.
  • Only Enchantment Awards performers, approved backstage and artistic personnel, and Popejoy stagehands will be allowed backstage any time we are in the theater. No family members will be allowed, even after the show.
  • As we get closer to rehearsals and our performance, we expect to implement more protocols for the safety of all concerned. Bookmark this page to keep up with all updates. You can also email us with any questions.
