Saturday, May 10, 2020Our awards show is a momentous evening, thrilling audiences and participants alike. Our professional artistic staff creates the event. Individual award nominees rehearse as a group the week prior to the ceremony with our artistic team, even working one-on-one with them and other coaches to improve their skills.
Our showcase puts the talents of our nominees front and center. Nominees perform an opening and closing number created specifically for the show. Individual nominees perform solos as well as singing in a character medley of selections comprised of songs from each nominee’s adjudicated role. Our Directors’ Choice Chorus, made up of nominees for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress and representatives from each participating school, performs another number to close Act One. Supporting actor and actress awards are given out just before this number, as is the Spotlight Award, which recognizes the exemplary contribution of someone associated with one of our shows. The top nominees for production awards represent their shows on stage throughout the evening. Near the end of the show, awards for Best Production, Best Direction, and Best Ensemble are announced and given to those schools who earned them. Individual nominees compete during the evening. Their live performances in their solos and the character medleys are scored by a panel of distinguished judges. Those scores are combined with the scores earned in their high school productions. The male and female with the highest total scores win the awards for Best Actor and Best Actress. Our show provides thrills for people on both sides of the curtain! Saturday, May 10, 2020, Popejoy Hall. Don't miss it! |
