Theater is the art of telling stories in a theatrical way. What we are reviewing is the storytelling abilities put to work in your production, either as a whole for the production or by individuals in specific roles. We will send our best student storytelling artists to New York.
Each participating school’s musical production will be viewed and evaluated by three carefully selected adjudicators. In addition to awarding points according to detailed guidelines, each adjudicator will produce performance and production commentaries for each school as a learning tool. The awards criteria emphasize achievement, not budget or size of production.
Each school being evaluated must hold aside eight tickets at no charge, one for each adjudicator and a companion, plus one pair for a representative of our program and a companion. The tickets must be for public performances. We will notify each school for which performances tickets are needed.
We will also adjudicate second casts as requested. Each member of Cast B must be listed on the school's registration form. A second cast requires an additional $150 fee. Adjudicators will evaluate both the cast members included in the second cast and the production itself, giving directors a second set of comments for the production. Scoring for Cast A will be used for production award categories unless a specific request is made by the director and acknowledged by our program.
Nominees for Best Actor and Actress awards will receive written evaluations from our adjudicators. Nominees for Best Supporting Actor and Actress awards will only be scored; no written evaluation will be provided for these performers.
The highest scores in each category will determine the winners. Nominees will be announced on April 16, 2018. Winners will be announced at the our awards show May 5, 2018.
